Last weeks newsletter had mentioned that Chiloquin Visions In Progress (CVIP) will be sponsoring two Pow Wow's. This is not the case. The Klamath Tribes is the sponsoring organization and deserves due credit. Again, The Klamath Tribes through the Regional Partnership Grant To Combat Meth will hold a Pow Wow at 6pm Feb. 14th in the Big Gym on 3rd St. in Chiloquin, OR. This event is targeted at combating Meth in the Chiloquin area and will provide information through a host of community organizations. There will also be an Honors Pow Wow tomorrow Feb. 9th at 1pm held at the OIT Student Union. For more information contact the The Klamath Tribes toll free at 1-800-524-9787 or locally at (541)783-2219. Also visit www.klamathtribes.org for more information.

Out of Town Conference:
Helping America's Youth (HAY) - Two Day Conference
Helping America's Youth (HAY) is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the challenges facing our youth, particularly at-risk boys, and to motivate caring adults to connect with youth in three key areas: family, school and community.
Building upon the success of the October 2005 Conference on Helping America's Youth, multiple federal agencies are working with state and local partners to host regional conferences throughout the United States. The sixth regional HAY conference will be held in Portland, Oregon on February 27-28, 2008. The conference will offer a two-day training session and speaker series designed for coalitions and community partnerships focused on youth issues.
They are seeking youth-focused partnerships that might be interested in attending. This conference is for community partnerships from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Invitations are not guaranteed due to space limitations so it is really important for this to be a speedy process. Additionally, the conference is only a few weeks away. A few important logistics to keep in mind as you determine if representatives from Oregon coalitions would be interested and available to attend the conference:
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on February 27-28. The February 27 training session and work group is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., followed by an evening reception. The February 28 HAY program is scheduled from 8:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will highlight the current status of America's youth and successful methods for helping make a difference in their lives.
Coalitions and community partnerships can send both adult members and active youth members of the partnership, and they encourage a combination of both. Each partnership can nominate up to four members, (no more than two youth) who have been involved in the coalition/community partnership. Youth (persons younger than 18) must be accompanied by an adult. Youth will be able to participate in plenary sessions as well as activities designed just for them.
Nominated adults should represent the different sectors involved in the coalition/community partnership, such as human services, education, law enforcement, faith-based initiatives, etc. If a partnership wants to nominate more than four members to attend, the additional individuals will be put on a waiting list.
The training is free of charge. A limited number of lodging scholarships will be available based on need. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on February 27. Guests will need to cover all other travel expenses.
